After the fire

Where did Summer go? October today! I took Emma for a walk out back this morning and saw that thanks to a good monsoon, life is returning after our forest fire in June.

The rain came all at once it seems and there was so much that cattle ponds overflowed and the Forest road washed out. The plants loved it. Immediately the grass greened up, though it has since turned blond again now it is Fall. There was little to no rain in September.

Thankfully there were not many large trees that could sustain the fire although there is some evidence that the area burned.

Now it is Fall, we could do with a bit more rain. Please.

Mother Nature is resilient indeed. It's hard to imagine how fast she bounces back after fires,, floods, and pestilence! After a rainy March/April, dry May, wetter than normal June and July, August and September have been dry as a bone. We were four inches ahead on rain in June and now are two inches behind. I suddenly realized this weekend that i needed to hand water where there is no irrigation. (And, yesterday ordered pieces parts to create four more watering zones for next year. Am getting old ... may not want to carry watering cans forever!)

I do love the change of seasons, tho. It's finally really cool in the early mornings and afternoons are topping out in the low 80's or high 70's with that little bite in the air and deeply blue skies. (Real dringk-on-the-porch evenings.) Am loving it. Hope we both get some beneficial rain soon and often.
